Writing Project Details

I write fantasy, science fiction, and science fantasy, among other genres. Stories filled with imagination.

From short stories, novellas, to novel length fiction, I write stories for adults, YA, and MG/chapter book readers.

I love making mock book covers--another way to be creative. Here's the process I use.

While some might find this strange, I normally start a book cover in PowerPoint. I choose a background for the mood/tone I want to set.

I create the text in PowerPoint and play around with fonts until I find one I like.

I also use PowerPoint to create my workshop PDFs and create JPEG images for use on my website using the PowerPoint Export feature.

Since these mock covers are for my own private use, I like finding a platform that has an image AI-generation tool, such as MidJourney, Ideogram, or Leonardo AI.

I can generate many images in a short time, revising the prompt I'm using as needed.

I save the generated image to my laptop, edit it, and import the image into PowerPoint.
'
I also use Canva to generate images and to create presentations, which I use for my online fiction workshops.

I often do minor editing of images using PowerPoint, such as making them transparent and softening the image edges to mesh with my chosen background color.

After I have the image placed, I can move the book title and author text where it makes sense.

I normally save my work as a PowerPoint file, an image file, and/or as a PDF, depending on how it will be used.
